A Markets Case Study:
The Objective:
Obtain Regenerative Organic CertificationTM (ROC) for 1,800 acres of rice, two (2) SKUs.
The Journey:
Lundberg rice was already USDA Certified Organic, a required baseline for obtaining ROC Certification. A significant amount of work in-the-field and in-the-office had already been done to eliminate chemical inputs, improve the health of the soil and capture progress on paper. Against current ROC standards, Lundberg rice had been given a rating of Bronze, however their goal was to obtain Gold and full certification.
How We Partner:
Rodale Institute Consulting was tasked with helping Lundberg through the certification process including farm operations and post harvest/manufacturing operations. Rodale Institute Consultancy provided a gap analysis to help the Lundberg team understand where they lacked compliance with ROC standards and provided recommendations for closing that gap. We worked side-by-side with the Lundberg team to complete all necessary paperwork including the Supply Chain Map and Claimed Material & Product Formulation Worksheet for each product that carries a ROC claim and contains certified ingredients. Rodale Institute Consultancy also advised on the ROC Licensing Agreement. Together, we celebrated this achievement and the launch of the Regenerative Organic Certified Rice at Expo West in 2023! We are now partnering to explore expansion of our partnership model to other farms within the Lundberg supply network.
